That top image tells a really cool story. You might have thought it was made on an in-game canvas, but it's actually drawn on one of the maps. It's crimson4649's new hobby, "Painting maps, and putting them on sleeping Newmans!" What else has been left on the slumped form of an offline player? Take a look: The writing is spot on, and crimson4649 has done more than just scratch words into the map. If you look the centre of the eye image you can see the player marker: the rest of the map has been covered up to reduce it down to that single point. I love this. If I found a painting like it in the world, I'd probably be a little bit distressed, but no more than usual in the confines of Rust. But if I woke and found it on my body? Not cool, man. This person might be on your Rust server right now. Do you know where your maps are?
Swemba's unique take on Raid Cams has been improving over the months, and this is the best yet. Everything came together: the raid was exciting, the action was well framed, and on a live Rust server nothing occurs in a bubble, so a hacker pops up, then a chopper arrives to change everything. I really like the juxtaposition of the smooth camera movement, nicely framed shots, and the chaos of the voice chat; I especially enjoy moments of action framed by the voices of those taking part. Good work, everyone! The video was filmed with the Rusty Moose community, and it looks like they now have a dedicated server for video. I can't wait to see what comes of it.
Hey, you! Yeah I'm talking to you, the guy wearing the "I love music parody" shirt. Put down that book about music parodies and watch this music parody made in Rust. If you must know, it's by IZEDEPTICGAMES, and called Base by the Ocean. Here's the original, which has over 101 million views. It's a song about a man and his love for baking and NOTHING ELSE. And until today, I was unaware of its existence.
It's been a while since I've taken a look into Rust Factions. They moved away from the sub-reddit and into a bespoke site that I keep forgetting exists. So thanks to McJey76 for reminding me with this montage of the servers cities. Why should you care about Rust Factions? Aside from the map being strewn with amazing cities, and rules that means large scale battles are preceded by war declarations, I really like that they keep track of the shifting borders of the world. It has some top-notch role-playing. I'd sub to the Youtube channel to keep track of it if you're not on the forum.
Yes, that is a lazy title, but it also perfectly describes what you're about to see. Some art I gathered from the community this week. It's a mix of screenshots, photoshops, and paintings made both in and out of the game. First up, Shadowfrax came up with a concept for Bear Drops. Mull over that amazing pun while you stare at this: Kat on the Steam Community uses the in-game signs to make honest to goodness art. Tonymax arted hard in MS Paint and came away with these posters. Basse's work is generally incredibly rude, but that self-portrait is amazing. You might not consider yttriumtyclief's base art, but you'd be wrong. Whoever raided it has made my list. That was some art.
This clan recruitment video by IceBurgers is a nexus of VHS, Game of Thrones, synths, and Rust. I'm ending here. Nothing can follow that.
Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now's the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or show off a game-mode from your server, or if your server has an interesting theme. There's a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well. I can't respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
