No, you haven't slipped through time to the year 3656. It's just my way of cheering loudly from the website about our new concurrent player record. 85,208 of you were online at the same time this weekend, a remarkable number for a five year-old game. We were all together in our Slack channel, watching the numbers tick up. Over on reddit, there's now 100k subs as well. Truly scary numbers of scary people doing scary things.
Do yourself a favor and bookmark WheatleyMF's project page. He's been on here a number of times, and the header is probably his best work yet. A stadium, possibly one to hold all our new concurrent players together in one big event? I don't know. It's just a stunning piece of work, and one that took me a while to come to figure out. It only looks like Rust when the player is in there. He also made this village. He has a real talent for using our prefabs in interesting ways.
A while ago we saw some shaky-cam footage of Pong being played in Rust. Shadowfrax got in touch with the creator and managed to pull together a far smoother look at the ridiculous electricity build. As is the case with a lot of these things, the output is overshadowed by the input, and Shadow's look behind the scenes is mind-blowing. Santa has returned to his slumber for another year, having feasted on the joy and despair he brings to all the little children. But his effects are still being felt. In order to appease his truly awful ways, reddit hosted an electrical build competition. The winners were Gimpslap's power plant: And WaCoD Gaming's, er, thing. You really need to put your sound down for this one. Also on reddit, Barry Duffman made a circuit that gives him a lot of info about his shop. Here's what he said: "The 3 Counters together at the top are HH:MM:SS since the last customer exited, and the 4th Counter is the number of players who went through the Exit door - both Entry and Exit doors are Laser controlled. "There are 3 switches to control the 3 separate automatic doors (1 for entry/exit doors, 1 for indoor turret, 1 for outdoor turret) located in a side room for easier access (not accessible by customers). "This whole circuit uses 1x Large Battery (to the right, off-screen), 6x Solar Panels (3 East, 3 West) with 5x Root Combiners. The battery gets approximately 14~ mins of charge per day, and uses 10 mins of charge per night, so the battery will never run out."
It's been too long since Holdacious pulled in all his favours and ran an Olympic event. Four players, four events, and that's all I'm going to say about it. Watch it. It's fun. This needs to be a weekly event. I can't wait another year.,
Over on reddit, xSalad_ tossed up a few of pieces of art. As did 1041 2406 29 on the Steam community. And that was the art.
It's been a while since I even thought of Legacy, but Badtripbg's Arcade machine reignited some fond memories of that old place. Hey, if there's a Half-Life 2 Arcade, why not Rust?
Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Share your map designs, show off a game-mode from your server, let us see your cool base. There's a dedicated forum, or you can fish for upvotes in the subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well.
