Community Update 105

A cave community concept, Rust as GTA, and more.

The header is from BlueHeartBob on reddit, who couldn't wait for Vince's caves to be added to the game, so he drew up his idea of what he imagines they'd be like. We're not planning on enabling people to wall off the caves like this, but as the image is so striking we're not complaining. Also, the look adds a touch of class to the site. Really nice job, BHB.
This needs some explanation: a few weeks ago, Maxim Klyuch wowed us with a real-life working Rust Crossbow. It seems like he's been reading reddit, as he spent some time improving on our idea and come up with what I think is the first real-world concept art. Here's how the bow could would work with the addition of a rope arrow and return reel. Reel talk, yo. Ahahahahaha. Ha.
If you want a fun example of being a small player on a server--even if that player happens to be a large Youtuber--you'd do well to watch this video from Vertiigo. It's his progress a week after a wipe, as people start crowding around his base, and friends and enemies are made. Particularly sticky enemies at that. Rust happens, and it happens to one of the funniest players, which is great to watch, as he starts to believe in himself a little bit too much. There's a line at the very start of the video, where Vert mentions he was in the middle of two warring clans, and nothing much comes of it. I love being reminded that Rust is about lots and lots of different interactions, not just the large teams battling it out.
'city' was posted to reddit by reginayu3. It's probably the most accurate reddit post title of all time. It certainly is a city. 112 images is a lot, but there's a lot of city to see.
It's always amusing to see someone's building ambitions outstrip their graphics settings.
The opposite of Vertiigo's Gonzo Rust fun is probably this ridiculous GTA parody by Brunt Force Trauma. They've always been good at turning Rust into something else, but even I was astonished to see how they've made the game resemble old school GTA. It's beyond anything I expected. Soon you won't even need Rust and I just made myself sad.
Another week, another glimpse into the world of moving images. There's a lot of terrible, awful reaction gifs on the Steam community, but what makes Traque's not awful is the addition of the voice UI in the scene The Shining. That little detail adds so much to his reaction to being raided with nothing much to protect you. And on the right is Seb's upgraded nude Newman from last week. Now he has Bone Armour. That was the gifs.
DutchBoyd gets a good start. I'm sure those bodies were hackers. Jerks.
Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now's the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or show off a game-mode from your server, or if your server has an interesting theme. There's a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well. I can't respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
