I've stared at the header image a lot since OragneCupBandit stuck it on reddit. It took me a while before I realised why I found it so fascinating, aside from the obvious fact that it's an incredibly lovely piece of art. No, it's because the mask isn't a standard mask, but one that was on sale in the item store. Player created content has already become iconic enough to appear in fanart. It's an incredibly swift turnaround for that piece, too. I also love that anyone who comes to the Rust homepage for the next few days will be getting a hearty thumbs-up. I had to crop the image slightly for the page, so here's the full version.
I quite enjoyed the many, many deaths of Oblivion HD here. I lost it at the bear deaths.
As much as I love vanilla Rust, I'm also fascinated by servers that roll their own Rust rules, aaaand I'm a big fan of Tatten's art work. I took a peek at Disrusted and came away impressed with the ridiculous world they've crafted. This Rust where the players are pawns in a game of war between Gods. Look at this stuff. I don't doubt that the second-to-second feel of the server is Rust, but there's something to be said for working to a loftier goal in service of the Gods. Good luck, Disrusted!
Rcham has been stripping again. There are lyrics of an adult nature in this. Blush.
"Giving something back," in the Rust community sounds vaguely like a counter-raid that leaves an incredibly detailed painting of someone's genitals in the base, but it's also what Charitable Rust did this weekend. I mean they gave money back, not that painting. Through donations and shirt sales, they raised over $15k for Doctors Without Borders! For 12 hours Rustafied and guests hosted an event on their server, covering everything from parkour and lots of different game modes, to an amazing art competition. Rustafied has some coverage on his twitter account, and when more footage sneaks out I'll have it here next week. But I was quite surprised that this didn't win the art competition. There is truth in all art.
Another game mode made it out this month. One In The Chamber is a DM match where you're given a revolver with one bullet, a rock, and three lives. Every kill you get in the mode adds a bullet to your gun, and everything is one hit. Here's Rust Headquarters playing it. That looks like a laugh.
Rust skinning demon, Xtab, is currently hosting a Christmas Skin Contest called Rudolph's Revenge. I personally prefer to call it the 'Chrustmas Skin Game', but I wasn't in the room when they were deciding on that. Next year, eh? All you need to do is craft a Christmas themed Rust skin and follow these instructions.
  1. Upload your Christmas themed Rust skin to the Steam Workshop from within Rust and make it public.
  2. Include a link to the Christmas Skin Contest Thread in your skin’s description.
  3. Add the Christmas Skin Contest 2016 overlay to one of the images of your skin in the Steam Workshop. You can download the overlay here.
  4. Make a post to the Christmas Skin Contest Thread and include a link to your skin in the Steam workshop.
Do all that by Dec 2nd and cross your fingers. You can enter as many times as you want. Winners will receive actual dollars as well as having their skin included in the game. Good luck!
Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Share your base designs, show off a game-mode from your server, or if your server has an interesting theme. There's a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well. I can't respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
