Community Update 114

Incredible art, how to hide a base in plain sight, and more.

Redditor OragneCupBandit has been busy this past week, sketching out scenes from the world of Rust. Aside from last week's blog, there's this week's header--which I've slightly cropped so click the link--which shows an incredibly busy gathering of Rust elements. And the one below that just popped up this morning, which takes the less-is-more approach. I prefer it, but the busier one makes for a better header. I've been the man in the shack so many times.
The final tally of last week's Rust charity event has cashed out at $17k for Doctors Without Borders. With a goal of $5k, you guys absolutely smashed it. If, like me, you couldn't attend (I was ill on the sofa watching the sequel to Independence Day, and I recommend experiencing neither of those), here's Shadowfrax's highlights of the day. Lovely work, everyone.
My body is scratched and burnt, I keep waking up screaming, and in the quiet moments of life there's nothing but pain. Yes, I've once again popped my head into the Steam Community to see what they've been up to. In there I discovered Shedmon's work on the left. There's genuine joy in the eyes of the player, which is in stark contrast to towimihura's piece on the right , which puts the 'pain' in 'painterly'. It turns out that Shedmon also made the skin for the Bone Club. I'm so happy we can share revenue with people who make art.
MikeTheVike occasionally takes tours of Rust bases on his server. I'm a big fan of videos where people talk about the inner workings of a base that's being used, even if those bases use tricks in their designs. These aren't conceptual, but live and on servers. He has some amazing builders on that server.
It's been a while since I've seen a base like this on a server. Or has it? Perhaps people are so good at making their bases unraidable that I've seen thousands and thousands of the things and just didn't realise. Or perhaps not. Anyway, this build from Rust Headquarters is a nice reminder that base design can differ from compounds, sniper towers, and the ones where there's more doors than grains of sand on the beach. It's also a nice reminder that I am a base building genius, as all my bases end up looking like this. Not deliberately. Next-level base building: one that looks like a raid tower outside.

Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Share your base designs, show off a game-mode from your server, or if your server has an interesting theme. There's a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well. I can't respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
