There's always room on the blog for Veysel Kara's artwork. This one is to celebrate the opening of hJune's server. This is the excitable chap it's in aid of...
He's so good at making videos that are largely action based about the context of the fighting. There's a story to almost every bullet.
I stumbled across an incredibly OTT custom map this week. Keirox created this map, Fantasy Valley, and released it to the Cosa Nostra servers. It has two stepped pyramids, a ridiculous custom castle (that might affect your performance), themed islands, a maze, and more.
Of course, it's one thing to present shots and trailer of a map, and quite another to take a trip around it. I spent a few rounds on the map on Cosa Nostra's servers, which run under Battlefield rules, so you spawn with a few guns and survival is largely about bullet dodging. It's an unfortunate choice, but understandable. There's so much action around that finding and enjoying the monuments can be very tough, but it's also a server that's guaranteed to be busy. You only get to appreciate what's been made in fits and starts.
I tried that with the castle. It's a very popular monument, because it's a ridiculous thing. Getting near it requires a hundred different factors to go your way. It can be something of a siege, as the high walls and huge rooms provide both cover, and more to explore. There are towers to snipe from, and beneath the castle winding dungeons with secrets to find. I had a shootout for the throne room, and ended up dead in the moat as I tried to get out.
Worth a visit, but expect to fight for the privilege. Pyramids became something of a theme this week. The Drakess State server released a short look at their updated map, and it's what's inside the pyramid that's cool.
Great idea with the flamethrowers. Finally, mezamorphis has been making a custom submarine monument.
And you all know how we feel about boats.
Over on reddit, WheatleyMF drew up a dramatic little scene of a post raid... raider?
Neither of these can be called 'art' in the traditional sense, but also giving them a section each would be overkill. TheCJ_121 made a few Bean Can Grenades. And Devildog0491 drew up a flowchart for his clan that amused me. IUt's not funny, other than that it exists.
And that was the 'art'.
There's no shame in concepts being designed but not being made, because that's the nature of game development. But I always watch Shadowfrax's Concept Limbo series through my fingers. This time it's a bit easier, as he's taken as much inspiration from the community as he has from Facepunch. Phew!
I do like that raid table.
Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Share your map designs, show off a game-mode from your server, let us see your cool base.
There's a dedicated forum, or you can fish for upvotes in the subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well.
