I'm not quite sure how it'd work? Perhaps if you have multiple bases that you can keep track of with the alarm? Or a camera. We've already covered his bean-can camera concept, and it turns out he's been busy working on a few concepts in that time. Take a peek at his ideas for a shotgun, flamethrower, underground bases, and more.
Three cheers for all the lovely people over at Rustafied for the weekend's charity success! Bugs and team held a 12 hour Twitch-streamed event, inviting some of Rust's most famous players to mingle with server and the public, turning the harsh world into a carnival. They even dunked Facepunch's Holmzy into a pool of water, which totally justifies the event in my book. They took in $3,231 for Child's Play, and Garry has matched that number from our end. Well done to Bugs and the team, and they're promising this won't be the last event of its kind from the server.
A new video in Vertiigo's sadly infrequent documentary series where he invisibly spectates a monument. In this case it's the sphere tank. Vert's viewpoint takes in the ebb and flow of violence around the game's most visible-and therefore one of the most most visited--loot spawns, looking at the tension between the people who camp vs. the people who look to the tank for an initial boost. Ultimately, it's about the struggle of the nakeds of the world and all the obstacles in their way. There's a moment of physical comedy at 9.41 that's absolutely perfect. It's superbly framed by Vertiigo's commentary and editing. You're getting good at that, dude. The shot at the end is lovely, too.
I really shouldn't encourage this sort of thing. Rust in the real world is a bad idea. By all means dress up at Halloween, or run naked through the nearest airport to see if you can find a crossbow. That's expected of gamers. It's normal. But making a gun based on Rust? I am far too liberal and wibbly to let it happen without a stern warning: MAKE IT LOOK FAKE! There. Now that legally binding (the exclamation makes it so) warning is out of the way, let's look at the hardware. checked01 on Reddit crafted a Rust-ish pistol. Like all good Rust guns, it has a BP: "Made out of paper, tape, hot melt glue, and a fuckton of sharpie!" If you want to see it in action, clicky.
This is fun. The guys at Rusty Pirate Gaming have a very in-depth look at the M249. I love seeing people using what they have in Rust to test out what we've given them: they test out bullet drop, distance, accuracy, and damage with all the ammo types, as well as comparing it against other guns. Obviously with a new weapon the findings are subject to change with the next update, but it's a pretty well-constructed test. I apologise for the pun in this section.
This story by soosleeque on the reddits really tickled me. He and a friend were in a battle with one of the larger clans on his server, and suffered a number of raids on their own base. Knowing the group's page on a Russian social network enabled them to get into their enemy's compound in a very cunning fashion. Here's the good bit.
Now I must say that this server had a group in one of russian social networks. I found this clan posting hacker reports in this group. And this moment I though I can try to break they door password, so I opened pages of this guys in social network and guess what? Their pass was their leader day of birth, so we had just to wait until they all went offline, we went to their base took everything we need. Also thanks to a new feature we removed doors and locks so everything was looking just as a regular raid with c4. But we did a small mistake there, in their main loot room there was a few turrets guarding it, so we just build a wall in front of it.
I don't apologise for the pun in this. Really good job, soosleeque.
Oddball mimic Shadowfrax has once again donned his helmet and taken to the rolling fields of Rust as the Empire's noir beast. To add to the conceptual swamp, the server is set to Medieval rules, meaning there's no tech above melee weapons or bows and arrows. Luckily, the swords aren't very heavy. In fact, you might say... nah. I'll let Vader finish that one. Take that, Battlefront!
Xayuu put Fallout in Rust. Sort of. Thanks everyone.
Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now's the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or show off a game-mode from your server. There's a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well. I can't respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
