Welcome to all the new owners of Rust! Here's what your fellow players get up to when they're not chasing you down and robbing your corpse.

Happy New Year! Although we all needed (and had) a bit of a break here over the holidays, you guys just kept on going. If I wasn't tied up with exhausting real-world things, I'd have tweeted one or two of the cool things I spotted over the holidays. As it is, I'll just have to put them in here. The header image is from Tatten's remarkable "I love rust and want it to be better" post on the forums. Go there and have a read. It started with a grab bag of art ideas covering everything from equipment and gun assembly, to higher concept ideas for the monuments. It was the robot monument that caught everyone's imagination, though, and Tatten responded by expanding on it with two lovely pieces of art. Clicky for good times. I particularly love the people using it for shelter. Good work, Tatten.
This is the only other mention of the holiday season I'll be making, because 2015 is nothing more than a dusty calendar to me. But this is too well done to not share. It's a celebration of the holiday season in Rust. Not overly violent, but it's well shot and the animation of the clock counting down is genius. Lovely stuff, Never Lucky. That is their second Rust film. Here's the first. I hope there's more to follow.
Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now's the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or show off a game-mode from your server. There's a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well. I can't respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
Most of the longer Rust videos I link to tend to be Let's Plays or Raid Cams, so it was nice to see "Rust - Escape from a Russian prison" pop up over the break. The makers, BigSandwichStudios, have made a short film in Rust, detailing a Newman's escape from a prison where guards have raves and people are imprisoned for no reason whatsoever. That's just the sort of environment that'll make people want to escape. There's a surprisingly epic feel to some of the action, and it works even when it's not being very Rusty. The stealth lantern breaks are nice, and I loved the bit with the repurposed code locks. You'll know it when you see it. Like all classic movies, the credits have bloopers. Stick around.
Over at Rusty pirate Gaming, KCmo built a neat water base. As with most of his builds, there's a deceptively simple appearance that hides a fiendishly tough base to assault. The water will take care of all but the most tooled up of raiders, but even if they do get past there's layers, high walls, and tool cupboard surprises. Now you must all build it and the game will be over.
Over on reddit, InfoRustPub linked to a real-world recreation of a Waterpipe Shotgun. If you think early game gun getting is rough, just be glad we don't force you to put it together in this fashion: he made the stop sign in order to bend it around the stock! Also, I can't begin to tell you how glad I am that it's not a working weapon. You can head over to Максим Ключ's channel for more guns from games. Also on reddit, Angry_Gnome shared a Christmas present: Rust themed coasters based on the in-game icons.
Apparently Rcham says it's okay to be scared. I'm not sure that's legally binding. That's like something the Garry's Mod community would have made. Well done.
