There's a war happening over on reddit, it seems. It started with Xercodo's post titled Willy Wonka and the Charcoal Factory, where the header image was taken from. There's a lot going on, here. The ring of furnaces is pretty nice, as is the slope of roofs leading them into the collection area. But there's also the synchronicity: the server reset, creating a perfect loop of charcoal, ever falling...
People started asking about it. The purpose? To farm charcoal in an elaborate fashion. The bags gather at the bottom room, and restack when they're added to, so the decay is reset. With the server's mods, the stacks are infinite, so the goods are never lost.
Of course, people also wanted to see it moving, and Xercodo was happy to oblige.
It set off a charcoal factory arms race. ReirBaws responded with his own thread, This is the real Charcoal Factory. A similar design to the original, obviously.
Which leaves us here, expecting another factory to pop up at any moment, and another, and another, until we rename the game to Furnace and turn it into an 'efficiency in charcoal collection' sim.
A short film from Never Lucky. The story is a bit silly, and I'm damn sure no-one in Rust watches Youtube on a flatscreen, but it's really nice to see what people can do with the game, especially with creative camera angles, and nice editing
I love the screaming at the end.
I love it when Youtubers hang out together, and I wasn't disappointed when Vertiigo popped over to Ser Winter' channel to pretend to be nenderthals.
They really embrace the caveman aesthetic of Rust by talking gibberish, singing gibberish, and being confused and terrified by fire, which is the funniest thing I've seen in Rust for ages. Luckily Youtube was actually invented by Gene Roddenberry, so there's a universal translator so we might understand. This is really, really funny. Probably my favourite video since the Pimp My Base video.
Amazing. I think Vertiigo has finally found a way to hide who he is while retaining the ability to make funny vids.
This is from a thread by—er—MrStonar titled Idea - Bike powered generator systems. You can probably guess the rest, but the uncropped image is here for all the details. As you can see, the idea is to not directly power things, but to provide a charge to batteries. Though making a game where you sit on a static bike isn't the most fun, I do like the idea of the batteries. It creates an opportunity for people to steal them, undoing your hard work, which is always valuable in the world of Rust.
TBH, we're probably just going to have players rub each other with balloons to create a static charge. We're consulting eminent rubologists on how to make it realistic.
The Godfather of Rust Let's Players invites his girlfriend into the world of Rust, which is the sort of thing that ends in her screaming "this is horrible" while fleeing from a naked man with a rock. Those are spoilers, btw, but what else did you expect from Argyle?
Check out his beard! That's a man who takes serious care of his face. It's all money, dude.
Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now's the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or show off a game-mode from your server.
There's a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well.
I can't respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
