It's not often we get a screenshot from a player's perspective topping the page, but's also not often that a screenshot of Rust looks so OTT. This is from one of Swemba's videos, but the shot was so good he rendered it out. If a screenshot could have sound, this would sound like tinnitus.
In Droden's Jimmy, he is raiding a base on his own while pretending to talk to a friend. He's 'accidentally' speaking into voice chat to his friend Jimmy, planning a raid that the dude inside can hear. As you can imagine, the base owner is really quite indignant. I did this once, accidentally, in a game that rhymes with JayZ.
You don't need a video to tell a story from Rust. This little three step scene amused me with its economy. It's better if you know the the ending.
Via reddit is this excellent example of the highs and lows of solo-raiding. Just watch. There's something about watching a nearly dead solo player fighting to get to a stash that's really compelling, especially when he's so close to the people defending their base. That crate moment had me on the edge of my seat. I love that the game can be tense on such a small scale. Rocket raids are amazing spectacles, as the header shows, but you can have fun without that stuff, too. Honestly!
I like mazes. Here's a really spectacular one from polishlanman, who filled with traps and loot. If you have a race through it, you could call it the A-maze-ing Race. You can't see me right now, but I'm definitely holding my hand up for a high-five. Please slap the monitor in recognition of that.
[OC] New Maze after the wipe! 2-part maze with traps and sweet loots. What do you think? Ideas?
Haha, you broke your monitor.
Catching up on a two-week backlog of unwatched Youtube subs leads me to Never Lucky's Friendly? Despite an over-reliance on depth-of-field, it's a strikingly shot short about how a new player is corrupted. There's a lot of good stuff in this, but I think my favourite part is the first shot of the player waking up on the beach, because I can imagine him filled with the hope of a newborn. You know, before it's beaten out of him with a rock.
More Rust IRL. The video cut out because he was eaten by a bear.
Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now's the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or show off a game-mode from your server, or if your server has an interesting theme. There's a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well. I can't respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
The Grumpy Spanner team has made some of my favourite Rust videos--Pimp My Rust and their little General Store series--and now they're trying something new. I believe this best describes it. *Clang! Clang! Clang!* "What are you doing out there? You're not hitting yourself with a trowel again, are you?" "No! I'm fashioning a weapon out of a spanner. Obviously!" Maybe not. This is the ultimate destination in life if you have a heat source, a Go Pro, and a Steam account: you try and forge a smaller version of the Rust Salvaged Sword. I don't know enough about this stuff to complain about the health and safety aspects of it, but I think I like it more when these things are 3D printed. Good job. When it's done, please only ever use it for good. And let me know so I can tell people about it.
