Hello! Thanks to everyone who pulled on their frog boots and took to the newly hued world of Rust this weekend. Saturday's peak of 68,204 concurrent players is a new record for Rust, and it blows our mind that it can still drag you all back. We're all still drunk dizzy from spinning around in our office chairs after the 'launch'. The header is a wee sketch from our lovely friend, Veysel Kara. He dropped it in our Forbidden Community Slack Room of Mystery, so I've yoinked it for fun. What a cute little view of our awful, awful world.
There was an inevitable reaction to the re-introduction, as a special thanks to all our Early Access players, of Frog Boots. Godlia's reaction is probably the one most people wanted to have. I didn't expect a cinematic. Kusword obliged. Also, they made another cinematic in Dec that I missed. It's quite good. I'm just going to toss it in here. I'm glad they're back, my dudes.
The other meme that filtered out of the community following last week's update was basically: holy shit, graphics! Vince's work seems to be a huge hit, and it's something MrMemeio tried to capture it with the video below. Enjoy! So last Wednesday I was working on the blog's header image, attempting to take a screenshot of a single player mining a rock against a nice backdrop. I worked on it in the morning, eventually made something I was happy with, then Vince updated the game in the afternoon and my work was made obsolete. Game development, people!
We had our top minds working on making the game look awesome for last week's update, so it was only right that WAMBAMYEAH responded with what they called a 'shitty picture'. I just happen to like seeing Rust not look like Rust, so here it is. I also like it when people redesign elements of the game, and I enjoyed seeing Nicplaysps's take on the map loading screen. But I'm not going to embed their shade throwing one. Moving on, over on the Steam Community, Parra878 showed off a 3D printed AK47. Two days to paint it. That's definitely art.
Friend to Facepunch and Rust videographer Surge has hit 100k subscribers on Youtube. He'll celebrate that milestone properly, but he's also gathered together more of his intros into a compilation. And you know how I like a good Rust cinematic, so having a pile of them strung together made me very happy indeed. Congratulations, Surge!
There are stories everywhere. You don't even need to look for them. Take MikeTheVike, who spends a lot of his time adminning his servers and keeping track of clans for his channel. On his server is OMC clan, that stands for 'Old Man Clan'. They're so called because they have a 78 year-old clan member. An ex-navy radio operator who spends his spare time in our game. I'm really glad Mike was there to chat to him, as it's just a delight. And now just a couple of builds on reddit, and though you might expect them to be towering castles of... castleness, I just liked them. On the left is _SmurfY's uncovered base, which still manages to look cosy. On the right, er, nutboi_ made a door. Not going to lie, getting the odd chuckle out of me is sometimes all it takes to get in here.
An eclectic gathering of item skins, this week. I'm pretty happy knowing that I just wrote a sentence that almost certainly never existed until my fingers danced across my keyboard. Here's Xtab's favourites. That's a jolly looking revolver.

Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Share your base designs, show off a game-mode from your server, or have you done a cool thing with Code Locks and Vending Machines? There's a dedicated forum, or you can fish for upvotes in the sub reddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well.
