The header image is from a custom desert map, cunningly called Desertworld. I thought I'd better point that out ASAP, in case you all think we've turned Rust into a full-blown Mad Max game. It's community made. It's by Kilgoar, who also made the Waterworld map. This flips the script on that, with the majority of the land being nothing but sand. A few pockets of water, ringed by resources, dot the area, and the monuments poke out the ground. It's the perfect place to spawn in a Sedan, as there's little to nothing to get in the way. He's been updating it regularly, adding bluffs, reshaping the land. If you want to see how it's coming together, you can join in the F1 console with connect wtfux.bot.nu:28015. I actually preferred the earlier version, with the sand rolling along in the dust, just a few recogniseable points of interest on the horizon. The larger rocks up close are a tad messy, but that's not his fault. Same with Waterworld, where some of the smaller islands now have monuments that dominate them, making an already tight map even tougher to set up on. Sometimes less is more. But I'm being picky, because I've spent more time on Waterworld than any other server this month, and had planned to build on one of those islands. Damn you!
Once again, the Rusty Cartographers Discord has been making me super excited about what they can make with the SDK. Raphiell made a custom bunker: If you want to know all you need to know about making a map, Ted Pommes made a 30 minute infodump on how to use k1lly0u's editor. All the tools, how to test the map and more is covered. Hypezz on the Rusty Cartographers Discord is crafting henges and using the crystals, and I really can't wait to take artsy screenshots of both. After all that, if you're hungry for something to play, there's Drakess State. It'll be out this Friday. Hype!
The third and final series of LOLOUT's Planet Rust has started. The Hunter returns to the world, the serious narrator is back, and the story begins anew. He has a real problem with c*nsorship, eh?
There's been an absolute unit of Rust-inspired music this week. There's no point in writing words about music, so let's just get into it. This is In Rust We Trust by Bright Eyes Surprise. And ManSwine covered Thunderstruck using guitars and just about everything else. Then Porgiee... well, he tried. There's no chance I'm getting that last song out of my head.
Generally speaking, I avoid traps and trolls. But MrMemeio is over here trapping people by telling them it's a trap, and that's fair game. He's so calm about it all. That's the worst part.
If anything comes from Xtab's latest deep dive into the Steam Workshop's Skins, it's that I will one day own a sword made out of old PCs. "Hacker" is a good pun, too.
AR-Whiskey used the scuba gear to amazing effect. Via reddit.
Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Share your map designs, show off a game-mode from your server, let us see your cool base. There's a dedicated forum, or you can fish for upvotes in the subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well.
