Community Update 39

Yup, that's the Mona Lisa in Rust.

Of all the things I expected to find in Rust, fine art wasn't one of them. I didn't imagine the sign painting tools would be capable of rendering anything but the simplest of wang doodles, but I'm delighted to be proven completely and utterly wrong. First up, the header was provided by Cherokess on the Facepunch forums, dropping a replica of Mona Lisa on us. This is as impressive as an in-game raid to me, and it also shows off how much Mona resembles Putin. Have they ever been in the same room, I wonder? But Cherokess didn't stop there. As if to prove a point, he then painted Rembrandt's Oil Study of an Old Man, because mastering one old master wasn't enough. A final sketch of Heath Ledger's Joker rounded it all off. The most remarkable thing about this is that it wasn't remarkable at all.
Youtuber NormalDifficulty tweeted that we should check out his fiancée's Rust art. So we did, and discovered SxxySniper's 'Museum of Fine Signs' video series, a group of timelapses of her in-game art creations. Here's Van Gogh's Starry Night: And here's Edvard Munch's The Scream: And what's remarkable about these paintings is they're also not all that remarkable at all. More art coming!
Some more works of art from the servers. Enjoy!

Finally, it's Imacrazyperson's surreal housescape. You guys are amazing.
What happens when C-3PO arrives in Rust? Will the universe's most naive protocol droid succumb to the horrors of Steam's most popular Early Access survival game? The artfully named 'Oh Artoo, Wherefore Art Thou?' is Youtuber Shadowfrax's exploration of this mash-up. It's a little bit long for what it is, but it's surprising how far he gets role-playing as a shuffling weakling. That's great. I'd have died within minutes, as I do not understand protocol. He actually released a video as I was writing this, coming across a giant Rubil's Cube on a server. I see no reason to not embed it. I imagine we'll see a raid-cam detailing the destruction of that base soon enough.
There's been a load of community concept ideas in the past week, and it's always fun to see the players playing game designer.

The Mosk's Inventory

An inventory with more useful information, as envisioned here.

Tuna In

To go along with the stars at night, and the upcoming hand-held map, LastGon imagined a compass made out of a tin of tuna.
When Helk wants to show his friends Rust, he shows them Vertiigo's videos. He has a few Rust adventures under his belt, but my favourite is Life in Rust. Vertiigo's plan was very simple: to follow a random player--without his knowledge--as he lives out a day in Rust, using the admin free-cam to spy. This shows the life of a solo player trying to make it in a world that is largely indifferent to his ability to breathe. There's a lovely moment where he finds a friend. Watch this. Stories in Rust needn't be huge in scope to be interesting. Just watching that player pick his way through the opening chords of a life is compelling. MORE OF THESE! On the other side of Rust, he's just tried out a raid-cam, and luckily it was a huge battle. His neat editing and ability to talk and swear is a good foundation for a Rust talker-over. It could to a with a tad more analysis, but it's all good. He has a fair few Rust videos on his channel, now. Absolutely worth subscribing to.
Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now's the time to share your art, though I'd ask you to think: does the world really need to see this perfectly painted bumhole? I can assure you, the answer is 'no'. There's a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well. We also have a dedicated site for suggestions and bug reporting. I can't respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
