I am about to overthink something. Forgive me. The header image is from here. A fair amount of work has gone into what looks like a simple set-up. Take a look at the larger version: the place-setting is funny, as is the fact that both players here have knives, but that might be taking away from the real triumph of the image. Someone built a table for this, and if you look closely you can see a lot of work has gone into manipulating Rust's building tools and parts to make it. There's something really grim about the civilised setting in comparison to what's about to happen. I can almost forgive someone living in Rust and doing what's necessary to survive, but to normalise it like they did? Ewww.
Argyle has taken a break from his on-the-scene reporting for his most recent videos. I think all that dispassionate reporting has built up some major rage in his system, and now he needs to go full-on Rust for a while. That means killing innocent bystanders, messing up heists, and taking down helicopters. He's gone full unethical. This first one shows the trouble with planning a heist. This is the reason we're not all criminals. Heists are hard. And here he takes on the new heli NPC. He could've tried to interview it, but he probably doesn't speak Chopper. That heli had one day left till retirement :(
I'm a sucker for famous game levels being recreated using Rust's building tools, and that's just what jescoewhite did. He's turned out a version of de_dust2, and it's a fine job. I recognise the space from all the time spent on it. I especially like the use of cupboards and barricades to help with some of the map's detail. The video is potato quality, sadly. Fun fact: in a former life on PCGamer I was part of the team that actually got Dave Johnson, the designer of the Dust maps, to make a third map. I'm telling you this because it's cool, and because someone should remember.
There's a lot going on in Rust Factions, a server that keeps track of its history with reddit posts from each clan's perspective. In fact, many sides are now creating their own media. I'll cover those in a later blog post, because I'm a sucker for that stuff. I just wanted to share this gallery of towns from the server. It's a collection of some of the town builds from the server, places where order and chaos live side-by-side. Sanctuary seems like a fascinating place to live. Cape Skull is a little too goth for my taste, though that pool looked welcoming.
Hey, Youtuber Partially Royale has started a new Rust series. It's everything you expect from a bunch off friends playing the game, which makes a difference from a lot of what we post. No raids, no characters. Just people enjoying the game. He's rolling with Argyle, and the brilliantly named Baron Von Gamez. All his Rust vids are here. There's already a second on in this series, right at the bottom of the list.
Not all raids are successful. You should all sub to Rust With Lou.
Think you're working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now's the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or share a game-mode your server hosts. There's a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I'm on there as well. I can't respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in. *A pun worse than cannibalism.
